The Inspiro story: 1995 - 2018

Who are we, what are we about and why? Even if you've heard of us before you may not know all that much about us. Inspiro provides a wide range of health services from our Lilydale, Healesville and Belgrave clinics, and other community venues.

Health services for the local community

We provide general and youth counselling, drug and alcohol counselling, psychology, dental, podiatry, speech therapy (adults and children), occupational therapy (adults and children), community health promotion, dietetics and nutrition, diabetes assistance, exercise physiology, physiotherapy and groups and programs for all ages.

We started in 1995 in a small building with only...

Not many people are aware that Inspiro began 23 years ago in 1995 with 6 staff in a tiny little building. For context, here’s a few things that happened way back in 1995: A large earthquake struck Japan, OJ Simpson was found innocent (!?), The First Tibetan Freedom Concert was held in Los Angeles, the Ebola Virus was discovered, an African-American walked in space and the first planet outside our solar system was found.

Today Inspiro employs more than 90 staff providing services across three clinics.

Inspiro was known as Ranges Community Health

In 1995, after the amalgamation of Mooroolbark and Sherbrooke Community Health Centres, Ranges Community Health (the name Inspiro used to go by) was officially founded. In 2000 the purpose-built centre in Clarke Street, Lilydale was opened and in 2012 Ranges Community Health officially changed its name to Inspiro in response to community feedback.

13,459 clients who had a total of more than 29,000 consultations

Former CEO Karyn McPeake said in 2016, “I joined Inspiro in 2008, a year of new beginnings as Eastern Health completed the Yarra Ranges Health building, connecting our services and providing a major health precinct for the area. Since then we have grown in all areas of our business, last year we saw more than 13,459 clients who had a total of more than 29,000 consultations. That is one in every ten people who live in the Yarra Ranges”

“Another highlight has been our ability to evolve with the times. We may have retained a focus on serving the unique needs of our clients but have also led the way in developing new programs, services and other innovations, such as our outreach dental program into schools and aged care facilities."

Evolving with the times has included our expansion to Healesville in 2017 and our recent expansion to Belgrave in 2017. The Belgrave Community Hub was a huge project that took years of planning, funding and foresight and only just recently opened. Locals can now access essential health services from our clinic at Belgrave Community Hub, as well as Yarra Ranges Council services like Maternal and Child Health Nursing, and other important services all in one the one expansive and comfortable building.

Inspiro moved into the Belgrave Hub located at 1616/1624 Burwood Hwy, Belgrave on Monday 26th March (read about the open day here), and had our first public visitors and clients at 9am the next day. Funding for the Belgrave health hub was provided by Government, Yarra Ranges Council and Inspiro.

In early 2017
Inspiro opened in Healesville, providing much needed counselling and physiotherapy services. We’ll have more services available from our Healesville site very soon. To stay up to date on when those additional services become available click here.
