The Dorothea Warr Industry PhD scholarship, established by La Trobe University in partnership with Inspiro and the Dorothea Warr Scholarship Foundation, will be awarded to a qualified applicant with a background in Allied Health or Nursing.

Who is Dorothea Warr?

Dorothea Warr was passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of local communities. With a strong focus on public health and a lifelong commitment to learning she continues to support improving health through this bequest.

Who will the scholarship be awarded to?

The scholarship will be awarded to an outstanding candidate to undertake research aimed at developing an innovative care model for diabetes to be implemented in Community Health Services. The aim of the PHD

The aim of the research is to develop, implement and evaluate an innovative community-based model of care for people living with diabetes in the Yarra Ranges. The research will employ an action cycle research approach with early implementation of the proposed model of care. This is an outstanding opportunity to conduct research engaging with a diverse set of community stakeholders and producing outcomes with a strong benefit for the community.  The research will be undertaken at Inspiro in Lilydale. The PhD candidate will divide their time between Inspiro and the La Trobe University Melbourne campus.

What do I need to do to apply?

Applicants should have a high level of achievement, including a first class honours degree or equivalent. Clinical experience in Allied Health or Nursing is welcome, yet not essential.

  • a La Trobe PhD Scholarship for three years, with a value of $26,682 per annum (2017 rate)
  • a fee-relief scholarship (LTU-FFRS) for four years (international applicants only)

Essential eligibility criteria
  • First class honours degree or equivalent

Desirable eligibility criteria
  • clinical experience in Allied Health or Nursing
  • experience in project management or evaluation
  • experience working with culturally diverse groups
  • experience working in a community health setting
  • experience working in diabetes management

  2. Invitation to apply: if you are shortlisted for the scholarship, you will be invited to formally apply.

What happens after I apply?

La Trobe will carefully review your application and consider you for this Scholarship. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview with representatives of La Trobe and Inspiro in the second half of July 2017. Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application in August 2017. It is anticipated that the successful applicant will commence candidature in September 2017.
