Are you doing it wrong? A better and easier way to floss

When my dentist realised that I was never going to regularly floss my teeth in the traditional sense using strings of floss or even flossing sticks she gave me piksters, and I've been using them regularly ever since. Fear of the dentist affects one in seven Aussies!

Fear of going to the dentist is one of the biggest anxiety disorders and affects about one in seven Australian adults, making it one of the most prevalent anxiety disorders in the country.  Don't let fear ruin your teeth or smile

Did you know that 48% of Australian children get cavities before the age of 5?

And for many children the situation can be far worse than a few fillings. At Inspiro we are seeing more and more children with advanced tooth decay. Many of these children are needing major tooth work such as complete tooth removal and crowns, often requiring anesthesia and costing parents many thousands of dollars.

Kids with less teeth enamel need special dental care

Cathy Imperial, Inspiro dentist who specialises in dental for children talked to us about the issues she finds when checking children's teeth at school. I recently visited a local kinder to teach the kids how to take care of their teeth. While there I do a basic dental check-up for the children, which enables us to spot problems early before they become painful and costly.

Why are hypomineralised teeth more prone to decay?

Hypomineralisation (hypomin), often known as ‘chalky teeth’ is a common condition that affects the enamel of a tooth, usually the first adult molars and the front incisor adult teeth. It is a developmental condition that affects up to 1 in 6 Australian children and adolescents and is a result of a reduced amount of minerals within the enamel of a tooth. Unlike decay, hypomineralisation occurs when the tooth is developing within the child’s jaw.

6 food and drink tips from Inspiro dental for healthy teeth

For healthy teeth, food and drinks should be free of added sugar whenever possible. Tooth decay is a diet related disease. Sugars in the food and drinks you consume mix with the bacteria in the in the plaque on your teeth and produce acids. These acids attack the outer layers of the tooth (tooth enamel).
